Lindyann Bodden-Ritch, Steinway Concert SeriesThe Steinway Concerts 1999
Lindyann Bodden-Ritch

Celebrated Pianist and Accompanist
with Eddie Cumberbatch and Lydian Steel
Mozart and More
Saturday 23 October, 1999

Lindyann Bodden-Ritch is one of the most respected pianists and accompanists in Trinidad & Tobago. She is the official acompanist of the Bi-Annual Music Festival of T&T and plays for the professional examinations of the Royal Academy of Dancing. She has accompanied international artists including Jill Gomez, Hyacinth Nicholls and Lorna Myers. In 1998, she accompanied Eddie Cumberbatch in the International South African Eistedfod where he was adjudged winner of the Over 25 Recital Class. Currently Mrs Bodden-Ritch teaches at St. Mary's College and accompanies the prestigious Lydian Singers.

PROGRAMME NOTES

Most concert programmes are arranged chronologically. Usually we would begin with Mozart and when I was putting the list together, that had been the plan. But with the advent of the steelband girls from Bishop Anstey High School I found myself with a larger ensemble and it seemed that I ought to leave the best wine for the end.

This concert gives me the opportunity to share some new music with the Steinway audience. Composer Brent Wilson, who has been writing for Edward Cumberbatch has kindly offered two short items for inclusion in the programme.

The Rachmaninoff section leads with the beautiful second movement of his second piano concerto, which is so well known and loved by local audiences. The second of the Rachmaninoff songs was the test piece in the 1997 Music Festival and I welcome the opportunity to present it again, this time with Edward Cumberbatch as the soloist.

The principal composer is Mozart. I have always considered it a privilege to perform the work of this master whose music is so timeless and who must rank among the best of them all when we come to rank the musicians of this millennium. I am presenting three examples of his work: the sonata, the operatic aria (with Edward Cumberbatch) and the concerto (with Lydian Steel and the Bishop Anstey Girls).

This is an ambitious programme and we have all worked very hard at it. I hope that the Queen's Hall Grand Steinway will be heard to advantage and I wish to thank the Patrons of Queen's Hall and the audience alike for this evening's opportunity to make some music for the pleasure of us all.

THE STEINWAY CONCERT SERIES 1999

Welcome to The fourth and final concert of the 1999 Steinway Concerts Series. We are proud to have been able to present tour accomplished, gifted pianists to perform on the Hall's valuable Steinway piano. Tonight is especially gratifying, our artist is Trinidadian Lindyann Bodden-Ritch, a musician who has made her considerable talent available almost exclusively to Trinidad & Tobago.

Modest and unassuming, she has performed the role of accompanist to perfection, always supportive never overshadowing The performer. Tonight we will be able to appreciate her skillful playing with her guest artists Eddie Cumberbatch and Lydian Steel and the Bishop Anstey Steel Band.

We will also have the rare opportunity to appreciate Mrs. Bodden-Ritch The Soloist, on centre stage, performing the works of Mozart, Brahms and newcomer Brent Wilson. This concert is a fitting way to end the 1999 Steinway Concert Series and gives us encouragement and strength to plan the Steinway Concerts for the year 2000

We wish you a rich and enjoyable evening.
