Making It Happen

RENEE SOLOMON, QUEEN’S HALL 12TH & 13TH JUNE
ANNETTE DOPWELL, QUEEN’S HALL 18TH JULY

Two young, vibrant and talented young ladies will give fund raising recitals to finance their further exposure and training in the United States and to say farewell to their supportive audiences.

Renee SolomonRenee Solomon gives her recital before leaving for Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. She had auditioned for 8 conservatories in North America, and accepted by 7, with glowing comments on “the beautiful timbre of her voice” and “her lovely demeanor on stage” before choosing Oberlin. Ms Solomon has been singing since the age of four and has been a winner many times over at the T&T Music Festival, at the same time she has been excelling academically. At the recital on 12th and 13th June 6, 2004 she will be accompanied by Jerome Dinchong and guest artists include the Marionettes Chorale, violinist Andre Donawa, Jacqueline Johnson and Vanessa Bushe.

Annette DopwellAnnette Dopwell. At a summer workshop last year at the Academie d’Ete de Nice she was surprised at the coaches and trainer’s appreciation of her singing voice and vocal technique and their advice to go to a conservatory for greater exposure and training. Excited she applied and auditioned to four colleges and has been accepted at the prestigious Mannes College of Music in Manhattan. Her recital is crucial to the financing of her college career. On July 18th she will perform with The Diamond Chorale conducted by Enrique Ali and will be joined by her voice tutor June Nathaniel and talented friends, Vanessa Bushe, Raymond Edwards, Kendall Reid and Nigel Floyd.

Spotlight commends the many persons and organizations who support these young artists who dare to dream. We salute The Marionettes Chorale, the T&T Music Festival, June Nathaniel, among others and the audiences who continue to fill Queen’s Hall and make dreams come true.

News&Views

Smith College Orchestra

Thank you Jessel Murray and the Smith College Orchestra for giving the Patrons of Queen’s Hall the opportunity to present two evenings of beautiful music. Although it was not possible to have a special performance for school children at Queen’s Hall to experience a real live orchestra all was not lost as with the assistance of RBTT and the management of Trinity College East the Orchestra conducted a workshop and played to over 400 students of Trinity College East and Bishop Anstey East.

Queen’s Hall Theatre Camp

After Four years in the cold the Queen’s Hall Theatre Camp returns to the Hall. We are grateful to our temporary hosts the Woodbrook Youth Centre and St James Secondary School but there’s no place like home. The Camp runs for 3 weeks, Monday to Friday, and the youngsters, aged 7 to 16, will have the opportunity to perform on the Queen’s Hall stage at the End of Camp Production.
