Signal Hill Alumni Choir 20th Anniversary
The celebration begins with a Gala reception on Saturday 9th April at 7.30 p.m. The Samaroo Jets will provide live entertainment as a prelude to the concert and Leroy Clarke will read from his collection of poems. On Sunday 10th April there will be a matinee performance at 6.00 p.m. The Marionettes Chorale and the Lydian Singers will make guest appearances at both performances. Inarguably the country's most outstanding folk ensemble, the Signal Hill Alumni Choir is a continuation of the all-conquering Signal Hill Senior Comprehensive School Folk Choir, which had been extremely successful in the National Biennial Music Festival. Its overwhelming success prompted the formation of the Alumni Choir in 1984 under the direction of John Arnold.
The choir will use the occasion to launch a commemorative double CD. Produced by Sanch Electronix Limited, the album features a previously unreleased repertoire of gospel, folk, contemporary, reggae and calypso genres. The price will be $150.00. Patrons get a special discounted price of $100 for the CD with the purchase of a ticket at the Queen's Hall Box Office. Tickets : Gala $300, Matinee $100

Surviving in the performing arts in Trinidad and Tobago is not only a test of artistic and creative ability but of fortitude. This year Spotlight congratulates three theatre companies who will be celebrating anniversaries on the Queen's Hall stage in April and May. Let's appreciate Signal Hill Alumni who feature in our cover story, Metamorphosis Dance Company and Lilliput Theatre.
Is 10 years old this year. It staged it s first season at Queen's Hall in 1995 blossoming out of the Caribbean School of Dance, the Company's objective was to serve as an introduction to professional dance. They have had considerable success. The company toured UK in 2002 & 2004 and at the individual level their graduates have been employed in commercial productions others are members of professional dance companies and others have been awarded scholarships to continue their dance training. The 2005 season will present newly created works and revivals.
Is part of their year long celebration of their thirty year existence. The annual stage production is inspired by the Carnival band conceived and designed by artist Merylle Mahabir. Lilliput's co-founder and artistic director, Noble Douglas, has charted and directed a vision of self development and self esteem for the young through the performing arts. On the 20, 21, 22, May over 100 young people will take over the Queen's Hall stage creating an exciting world with dance, drama and music. Come celebrate with them Bishop Anstey High School Choir has been invited to perform at the prestigious Eisteddfod Festival. Their April 12th Concert at the Hall is a musical treat and a fund raiser to meet some of the expenses of the tour. The tireless music director of the choir, Lorraine Granderson says that some of the Festival repertoire will be presented. They are supported on stage by the esteemed Lydian Singers.
